Lasagna as served from Tenuta Torciano Winery, San Gimignano, Italia.
Lasagna as served from Tenuta Torciano Winery, San Gimignano, Italia.

On my last trip to Italy, I went to do some wine tasting in Tuscany.  The experience that I had at the Tenuta Torciano winery, in San Gimingano, was fantastic.  It was about a 45 minute to an hour drive from Florence.  We hired a driver and it was a very good idea.  We must have sampled 10 wines (and by sampled I mean full glasses).  We elected to do a private tasting with the owner.  This tasting included a 5 course meal, highlighted by “Grandma’s homemade Lasagna”.  It was to die for!!!  If you enjoy good lasagna you must try this recipe.

I’ve now made this Lasagna a couple of times.  In order to save time, I’ve never made my own pasta, I just usually buy a high quality one from the Italian grocery.  One last tip for the recipe, at the winery they served it drizzled with a little bit of truffle oil.  That was the first time I ever had truffle oil on pasta, and as soon as I got home I bought a bottle to do the same.  Try it, you’ll love it.

In addition, feel free to browse the website for their wines.  They ship direct to the United States.  Their wines are really good.  I would highly recommend the Nobile di Montepulciano and the Chianti Classico.  That reminds me, I only have a couple of bottles left.  Time to order some more!!!!

It’s great when you have someone that obviously knows their way around a camera teaching you to cook. Great looking dish!
